Solicitor: Caliche Community Council and Water Board
Location: The communities of San Luis Calichito (Caliche), Union Los Pinos, and 12 de Marzo - Santa Cruz de Yojoa, Cortes, Honduras
he community’s water system does not have sufficient storage capacity, leading to temporary water shortages during the day when the town’s small holding tanks are emptied due to peak usage in the daytime. An engineer from the national water administration organization in Honduras (SANAA) came to study the existing system and make recommendations to improve its capacity. Chief among those recommendations was the reduction of turbidity in the system, reduction of system use for agricultural purposes, and the construction of a 10,000 gallon holding tank. Although the community originally requested a 25,000 gallon tank, they agreed to the engineers recommendation, and they look forward to moving forward with this significant project.
