Uniforms

Since its origin Heart to Honduras has supported schools in rural Honduras. We have done this by helping
provide teacher salaries, providing supplemental nutrition for school children, making materials and
uniforms available to families wishing to send their children to school, and helping communities make
improvements to their school facilities. With the involvement of a team of educational facilities planners
from North America, who in 1997 began coming to Honduras to help Heart to Honduras build new schools
for rural villages, the ministry’s role in helping rural schools has increased significantly.

One of the ways we can help rural schools is by providing clothing, uniforms, various school supplies and
nutritional supplements for the students that attend them. Rural schools in Honduras are usually very basic
one to three room facilities made of concrete or adobe, with a few crude wooden desks and few materials
beside. Education is not normally offered beyond the sixth grade level. Residents who live in the villages
where these schools are located often cannot send their children to school because they cannot afford the
materials or uniforms required for attendance. Providing clothing, uniforms and materials is one way we can
help ensure that every child can have access to education. Nutritional supplements, in the form of hot, fresh
in-school breakfast or lunches, is one way we can help provide these students with the nutrition their young
minds and bodies need to grow and learn to their fullest potential.

Heart to Honduras' supporters have been very generous in providing uniforms and other items for students
in Honduran rural schools. Last year we were able to provide students in at least eight village schools with
clothing, uniforms, learning materials and meals. Still, many other communities stand to benefit.

Amount needed: $25 per student / $2,000.00 per village
