Project: Two classrooms for Compassion International Program
Submitted: January 2017
Solicitor: Local Church of Open Arms, Heart to Honduras
Location: La Concepción, Santa Cruz de Yojoa, Cortes
The buildings will be added to the existing complex at the church of La Concepcion, Santa Cruz de Yojoa.
Project Justification: Why do you need the project?
In our church, we are working with the children’s program known as the Center of Holistic Development for the past seven years. At this point the program has grown, and we are now attending to 305 children and young people. For this reason, we need two more classrooms for the program.
Supervisor’s Note: This program is by Compassion International, but is run and hosted by the local church. In 2016 the program was functioning at maximum capacity with 275 children. Due to the success of this site, Compassion granted an extension of 30 more students to be sponsored locally in 2017 - which has resulted in the need for expansion. In addition to the 305 children sponsored via Compassion International, approximately 20-30 student per year studying for their 9th grade diploma will utilize a portion of this building via the Educatodos program implemented through the local church.
General Objective: What do you hope to achieve with the project?
Provide better attention and conditions to all of the children and young people that attend.
Supervisor’s Note: Students that attend the CHD are taught and tutored by volunteers from the local church. In addition, they receive small nutritious meals while on the grounds prepared by church volunteers and are monitored by healthcare professionals on an ongoing basis to ensure proper physical development.
Beneficiaries: Who and how many will continually benefit from this project?
- The local municipal government will provide sand ($300).
- The local church will provide laborers, part of the payment for a contractor, wood for concrete formwork and payment of construction permission ($930).
- Payment of a professional laborer and team (mason, welder, etc) and funds for the purchase of cement, concrete blocks, ceramic tile, and other building materials are requested from an outside donor.
