Cindy Penhorwood, Health Care Coordinator.
Cindy first traveled to Honduras with Larry Lilly’s medical team in 1992
and 1993.  Since 1996 she has led teams to Honduras at least once a
year.  Now, in her position as Health Care Coordinator she not only
leads medical, surgical, and dental teams to Honduras and Nicaragua,
but she also answers a myriad of health-related questions for teams
preparing to serve in Central America.   In 2007, these teams treated
nearly 3,500 medical patients.  Surgical teams evaluated 116 patients
and performed surgical procedures on 64 of those patients.  Dental
teams treated nearly 200 patients.

Cindy has compiled a Health Care Fieldworker’s Manual which
provides information on developing countries, the health care
philosophy of Heart to Honduras, pointers for practicing medicine and providing care to patients in
Honduras and Nicaragua, a suggested formulary, and ideas for preparation and packing of medications
and supplies.  Cindy develops health policies as needed and maintains a working relationship with the
physician and support staff of the Karen Smith Clinic in Canchias.

She also assists Steve DeLisle in Ministry Team Coordination, including fielding questions from teams
about logistics and personal health concerns, and managing the paperwork for each team.

A Registered Nurse with a master’s degree in community health nursing and post graduate study as a
family nurse practitioner, Cindy taught in the Anderson University School of Nursing (Anderson, IN) before
becoming Health Care Coordinator for Heart to Honduras in 2004.
