Psalm 8 could be titled “The Lord’s glory and humanity’s dignity.” This psalm extolls the majesty of God and also invites us to marvel at the depth of God’s love and esteem for His children. It’s astonishing, isn’t it, how much God values and affirms each and every human being! We invite you to read and reflect on the psalm and let the Holy Spirit speak to you about your inherent worth as one created in God’s image.
Lord, our Lord,
How majestic is Your name in all the earth,
Who have displayed Your splendor above the heavens!
the mouth of infants and nursing babes You have established strength
Because of Your adversaries,
To make the enemy and the revengeful cease.
consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The moon and the stars, which You have ordained;
is man that You take thought of him,
And the son of man that You care for him?
You have made him a little lower than God,
And You crown him with glory and majesty!
make him to rule over the works of Your hands;
You have put all things under his feet,
sheep and oxen,
And also the beasts of the field,
birds of the heavens and the fish of the sea,
Whatever passes through the paths of the seas.
Lord, our Lord,
How majestic is Your name in all the earth!”
Human Dignity is one of our stated and deeply held core values. Through our mission, we seek to dignify all people and empower everyone with whom we come in contact to see themselves as “crowned with glory and majesty” through Christ our Lord as the psalm states. There are no “greater thans” or “lesser than’s” in Christ’s Kingdom. Part of the work of poverty alleviation is restoring people to right relationships – a healthy, whole relationship with God, with Self, with the Creation, and with Others; to restore their dignity.
Will you please pray with us that our work will indeed help to restore human dignity in all our spheres of influence?
