House for Herminia
Project: Home for Elderly Widow
Submitted: October 2017
Solicitor: Local Church of “The Harvest” Sta. Cruz de Yojoa

Location: Barrio La Gloria, Santa Cruz de Yojoa, Cortes, Honduras

Project Justification: Why do you need the project?

The home is currently in very poor conditions, and we wish for this family to have a dignified dwelling.

Supervisor’s Note: Herminia (80) is an elderly widow currently living with her children in a small shack made of old metal roofing sheets. She lost her husband 24 years ago and has since lived as a widow. She occasionally goes to the local park to beg for funds when they are lacking, but the local pastor is now working with the family to ensure that she is better provided for by her children without need to leave her home. The local church of “La Cosecha” is very involved with this family and project.

General Objective: What do you hope to achieve with the project?

To help this family realize their dreams.

Beneficiaries:  Who and how many will continually benefit from this project?

Herminia Diaz (80) and her son Leily Betis (62), his wife Digna (34), and their two children Jesus (13) and Angel (4). They together earn a meager income of approximately $50/month.

Collaboration:

  1. The local municipal government will provide sand and blocks ($260).

  2. The beneficiary will provide masonry, part of the labor, and stone ($220).

  3. The local church will provide 10 bags of cement ($100).

  4. Remaining construction materials and carpentry labor are requested from an outside donor ($3360).

TOTAL AMOUNT requested from outside donor: $3360
