Project : Hogs at Home
Submitted: February 2016
Solicitor: Pastor Nelson Edgardo Acosta with the local church of “Arms to Love and Restore”
Location: Aguas de la Reina, Santa Cruz de Yojoa, Cortes, Honduras
Project Justification: Why do you need the project?
This will help provide income for our families because where we live there are few employment opportunities. In addition, this will help us provide food and other things we need to provide to our dear families.
Supervisor’s Note: Raising quality hogs on a small scale at home is a viable source of income for rural communities. A good sow can birth 11-14 piglets twice every year. Local price for a one month old piglet is approximately $50 USD. Caring for these animals can provide a significant increase in the income of a local family. A similar project was recently executed in a neighboring community and has provided excellent results up to the current date. To achieve a better life for all of the families that will be blessed with this opportunity. This will encourage them to desire to do more for their loved ones.
