Approach to Ministry
Heart to Honduras strives to maintain the following characteristics in ministry:
Focused
Our work is focused in Honduras, Central America, one of the most needy
countries in the Western Hemisphere. Resources are channeled through
the church, which we hold to be God's agent for building His Kingdom on
earth. By focusing and concentrating efforts and resources in this way, we
can increase and expand ways in which the church is enabled to fulfill the
Great Commission.
Indigenous
We work with and through the indigenous church in Honduras, helping her reach out to others while
developing and maintaining self-sufficiency.
Transdenominational
We believe that there is one Lord and one church, and that the church birthed and modeled in the New
Testament includes all true followers of Jesus, bound together by new birth into Christ, the indwelling
presence of the Holy Spirit, and a deep commitment to love others. Scripture shows that the church is
God's means for reconciling creation to Himself. Realizing this, we encourage and enable the Honduran
church to stand together and take seriously Jesus' command to make disciples.
Creative and Visionary
Creative visions for missions are tested in Honduras to find effective ways of meeting the felt needs of the
indigenous church. Our approach to church development is from the "ground up" rather than from the "top
down." As needs are identified by the Honduran church, we step in to help meet those needs in ways that
facilitate independence and self-reliance.
Accountable
Heart to Honduras is accountable legally to its Board of Directors, financially to the regular scrutiny of a
qualified independent accountant, and morally and spiritually to its network of partners who support it with
their prayers and gifts.
Spiritually Empowered
Recognizing our humanness and need for God's wisdom, guidance, strength and compassion, we seek to
be empowered by His Holy Spirit.
