Requirements

  • The leadership will regularly update the congregation and involve them in the Sister Church relationship.
  • The church will pray for their Sister Church pastor and congregation for both their spiritual and physical needs and rejoice in their victories.
  • The leadership team will continually work to create and maintain a meaningful relationship with their Sister Church. These should focus on relationship building as much as “bricks and mortar” building.
  • There should be a specific Planning/Visioning Trip to talk with the Sister Church and learn about their dreams, hopes and plans. From this joint conversation plans can be made for future joint ministries. This may be included in a regular Ministry Team trip.
  • Each year the two Sister Churches should put together a “plan” for what they want to do in the coming year. This should be a collaborative plan between both the North American (N.A.) and Central American (C.A.) church. The plan should include any visits, work projects, training, financial support, prayer programs or other activities. This plan will be given to the Sister Church Coordinator, who will share it with the H.T.H. leadership. This will help Heart to Honduras facilitate and support these relationships to the best of their ability.
  • The N.A. church is asked to visit their Sister Church annually. These trips will be for fellowship, updates, accountability, planning and joint projects. This does not have to be a team but an individual, pastor, staff, mission member or team.
  • The N.A. congregation will support the pastor with $150 per month. $135 of this will go directly to the pastor. The other $15 will go towards the training and support of the Brazos Abiertos pastors in general.
  • The N.A. congregation is asked to continue supporting Heart to Honduras’ general fund as well as their Sister Church. There is a significant amount of infrastructure in Honduras that must be maintained in order to properly support, train and lead the Brazos Abiertos churches.
  • The N.A. congregation will communicate with their Sister Church on a quarterly basis. Communicating more often is strongly encouraged. This communication should include prayer requests, praises, activities, and other significant events that will help the church in C.A. better understand their Sister Church. his communication should go through the Heart to Honduras office for translation and to avoid confusion. Should translation not be required from the Heart to Honduras office, a copy of the communication needs to be sent to the Sister Church Coordinator.
  • The N.A. congregation will work through Heart to Honduras to schedule all their trips and ministry activities with the C.A. congregation.
  • The N.A. church is encouraged to budget for at least one representative to travel to the bi-annual Sister Church Ingathering in Honduras. This is a special time of gathering all the pastors and wives of the Sister Church Program together for fellowship, worship and planning. The next one will be in May 2010.
