How do I book my trip?
1) Call Heart to Honduras office at (937) 372-3503. Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (EST) to schedule dates.
2) The dates will be tentatively held for 30 days pending receipt of
- $300 deposit (covers the administrative costs, t-shirts, manuals, luggage tags etc.)
- PLUS Signed Ministry Team Agreement
3) All forms and fees must be received in our Stateside offices (Xenia, Ohio) 60 days in advance of your trip dates.
What travel documentation do I need?
All U.S. citizens will need a valid passport to enter Honduras and return to the U.S. • It must be valid six months beyond your intended stay and have 1-2 blank pages remaining. • Allow yourself sufficient time to have your application processed if you are applying for a new passport or renewing an expired passport. What travel documentation do minors need?
All participants under the age of 18 must carry a notarized Parental Consent Form for Traveling Minors, signed by both parents, in order to leave the country. A copy of this form must be sent to the Heart to Honduras stateside office in Xenia, Ohio.
Do I need vaccinations?
Vaccinations are not required to travel to Honduras. However, you should consult with your local family doctor. You can also check the Center for Disease Control website at www.cdc.gov.
What airport do I use?
All flights are to and from San Pedro Sula’s Ramon Villeda Morales International Airport (SAP).
Can I extend beyond the Camp itinerary?
Yes, you may stay in Honduras before or after our itinerary. Please schedule your excursions around the planned itinerary.
How will our group travel within the country?
On this adventure your group will travel by passenger van or in the back of a pick-up truck.
What is the climate like?
Honduras has a tropical climate. Expect humid daytime temperatures between 80-100 degrees.
How strenuous are the activities?
Camp activities are considered physically strenuous. Campers are expected to be able to climb steep grades and into/out of truck beds. Campers should feel comfortable spending time exploring the outdoors. Temperatures will be hot and humid, so wear cool clothing and a hat (consult your manual for clothing guidelines), and drink plenty of water. Service projects consist primarily of construction work but there are ways for everyone to help. You’ll be given the opportunity to work at a level of physical exertion with which you’re comfortable.
What is the age eligibility?
Programming at the camp is designed to accommodate students in Middle School and up. Because of the above-mentioned items it is recommended that children under the age of 5 not travel as a part of this trip.
Is this trip appropriate for travelers with special needs?
Unfortunately no. However, if the person is able to work under the circumstances listed above then it might be possible.
What types of meals are served?
All meals will be typical Honduran fare with some American twists – Rice, beans, tortillas and meat. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are always available for the discerning tongue
What is the language and currency?
The primary language is Spanish. Honduran currency is Lempiras. The exchange rate is fairly steady at approximately $1 to 18 Lempiras. Credit cards are generally not accepted in most of the rural areas we will be in. ATM machines are available in larger cities like San Pedro. You can exchange money at the airport.
