Projects

There are a multitude of ways that you can help the ministry of Heart to Honduras accomplish its goals and continue attempting to raise people out of poverty and into a committed relationship with Jesus Christ. Here are a few projects that groups commonly undertake:

Housing for the homeless

Ministry Home

MINISTRY HOME – $2,500

Though often called a “widow’s house”, HTH builds this same structure of needy families as well. The ministry originally built only for single moms, but the need was so great that we now build for families with and without a husband/father. These homes are one of the few things we GIVE away in Honduras. Homes are provided for families when their pastor recommends them to HTH. The family must provide their own property to build on. Often this is given to them by other family members. These structures are approximately 16′ X 18′ with no electricity or running water. A North American group can complete one of these structures in 3-5 days. For an additional $500 you can add a covered, concrete porch to the front of the house. A porch aids in cooling the house and gives additional living space.

MINISTRY HOME PORCH – $500

An addition to the standard ministry home is a porch. Porches can be added to the front or side of the house depending on the  lay of the land and the wishes of the family. A porch consists of a larger concrete pad typically extending the length of the house and protruding approximately 6′ from the house, along with a slanted tin roof that is tied into the structure of the house. A porch gives the family more living space and a good way to cook outside the home (the typical wood oven inside a house can be harmful to the respiratory system).

Pila (toilet, shower & laundry washbasin) – $1,200

Pila - Toilet, shower & Laundry Sink

A pila is an outdoor restroom, washbasin and shower. This is a dramatic step forward for most families who previously used a local river for washing themselves and their belongings. This project is generally hired out to locals who have experience working with cement block and plumbing.

Screen doors and windows

Having a home that is secure is important, but so is having air flow and keeping out bugs and animals! This project allows homeowners to open up their doors and windows to receive a fresh breeze from outside while keeping unwanted “guests” outside. Team members will work together to hand craft door and window frames that are screened. This is an easy project that can be completed on a house in a couple of hours and requires no before hand knowledge. This project can be done with a Ministry house that your group is building or in a village. Call for pricing

Paint a House

The Ministry Houses that are built are often built with fresh and wet, milled wood. Over time the wood dries, but as it does can shrink and warp. As the wood dries it becomes more and more susceptible to bugs and weather. Painting the house slows the deterioration can add years to the life of a house.
