Physical Fitness
Your spiritual preparation will set the stage for God to work in your trip. Your physical preparationcan make your trip more enjoyable. Being the best physical shape possible will go a long way towards helping you get around Honduras. You should make a conscious effort to begin getting into shape early. The ability to walk a mile in the heat without being out of breath is a good measuring stick!
You will walk a lot. There is no way around that. Furthermore, you will be doing a lot of walking up and down hills and over rough terrain. The Canchas campus and the majority of our ministry sites are located in the mountains of Honduras. You will have to walk up and down the hillsides to get to your cabin (carrying luggage at times!), to meals and to the vehicles. At your work site, you will be on your feet most of the day in this tropical climate. You will make the strenuous hike to the top of Ambassador Mountain. Many times your travels to the work sites will require you to climb up into the back of a pick-up truck. In fact, more energy will be required to complete nearly every daily task in Honduras simply due to the fact that most of Honduras is at a higher elevation that most of the areas our travelers come from in the States. The more exercise you can do ahead of time, the better off you’ll be!
