While our closets are often overflowing with clothes, many of the Hondurans we serve only have one or two sets of clothing. It is not uncommon to see children with no shoes or sandals.
In the past we often gave used clothing through the women’s ministry. However, the Honduran government is now restricting the import of clothing in an effort to boost the textile industry. Although we can no longer bring in large quantities of clothing, we still distribute clothing left by Ministry Teams.
This of course has not changed the need.
We have begun to address this issue through the local church by teaching members how to sew and start clothing micro-businesses. Some of our congregations have now started small clothing factories. They make t-shirts, aprons, purses, oven mitts and other items for sale in their community..
