WHO WE ARE

Year of the Child, HTHYears ago missionaries penetrated rural Honduras with the good news of Jesus Christ. Hundreds of village churches were started, which this day continue to meet for worship and fellowship. The missionaries and denominations that helped birth these churches eventually went on to other ares, leaving these churches without trained leadership or outside support.

In 1988, God opened the door for Heart to Honduras, under the leadership of its late originator Charles Smith, to bring the village churches together in unity. Interdenominational associations were formed to advance the Kingdom of God and administer support provided by the church in North America. As a result, God is bringing new life and vitality to these materially poor followers of Jesus.

Since its conception, Heart to Honduras has endeavored to work through local churches in rural Honduras. Ministry founder Charlie Smith firmly believed that it made no sense to address only a person’s physical needs without also addressing their spiritual needs. As believers in Jesus Christ we are taught to share Jesus in all that we do and say. Whenever possible we have partnered with a local body of believers to minister to the needs of communities through pastoral support, church improvement projects, providing teaching materials, periodic pastoral meetings, seminars, campaigns, sponsoring children’s and youth activities, and equipping the churches to meet the physical needs in their villages.

Heart to Honduras’ objectives in ministry are to:

  1. Encourage and enable the church in Honduras to fulfill their calling as ambassadors of Christ;
  2. Inform the North American church about the needs of the church in Honduras;
  3. Provide opportunities for people and churches to share in ministry with the Honduran church.
